Summer is certainly here in all of its hot, humid glory! These warm temperatures have us all searching for the best source of relief, whether that means jumping into the nearest lake, pool, or pond or eating lots of ice cream. If you’re like us and eating ice cream is your preferred method of cooling off, you’re in luck because July is National Ice Cream Month! To celebrate, check out this easy recipe for Homemade Ice Cream in a Bag from The Farmwife Crafts! Somebody pass the chocolate syrup, please!

Even though the heat may send us humans in search of ways to get cool quickly, our fields and gardens are big fans…as long as we get enough rain to go with it! If you planted a garden this year, your produce is probably ready-or very close to being ready-to pick. Or, if you’re more of a hit up the farmer’s market type, you know that the vendors are starting to put out everything from zucchini to tomatoes to green beans and cucumbers. Hello delicious, fresh veggies! Our Hoosier state is such a great place to grow fresh veggies and fruits! Have more produce than you know what to do with? Stacy from The Backroad Life offers her favorite canning and preserving recipes here. Now you can enjoy that home-grown goodness all year long!

It also won’t be long until you see lots of signs for sweet corn for sale. Ever wonder what the differences are between sweet corn and field corn are? As its name implies, sweet corn is much sweeter and more tender than field corn. It’s what you go for when you’re wanting corn on the cob, or corn to freeze or can. Field corn, however, is not nearly as sweet and is harvested later than sweet corn; farmers actually want field corn to dry out a little! Most of the corn you see planted is field corn, and it’s used in many different ways. Visit Marybeth from My Fearless Kitchen’s post, The Difference BetweenSweet Corn and Field Corn, to learn more! And, once you’ve got your sweet corn all picked out (Marybeth also has a great post to help with that!), head over to Beyer Beware where Leah has a great method for a no-cook way to Freeze SweetCorn!

Now that we’ve got our veggie game under control, and that Ice Cream in a Bag is in the freezer, it’s time to figure out the main course! Keep the heat out of the kitchen and fire up the grill, because we’ve got some great grilling recipes for you from some of our favorite bloggers!
